Color Blocking DIY 2 Ways: tired wallet to dayglow clutch

Alright, I couldn't resist the colour cake tendency any longer. Time for a new DIY!

Hither'south the story: I've had this yellow wallet for years, and since I bought a new one recently, former yellowish is not really getting any use. Then I grabbed some of my trusty textile pigment and got to piece of work. Now I am using it as a colorful clutch for dejeuner dates with friends. Wanna make your own? Here's the breakdown (two ways)…

Supplies:

  1. quondam wallet (marks and scuffs are okay)
  2. material paint (I prefer Jacquard Fabric Paint)
  3. pigment castor
  4. an old rag or newspaper towels

How to Go far (part I): Distressed Paint Technique

1. Make clean your wallet as best you can with a lilliputian soap and h2o (or leather cleaner). If y'all used yours as much equally I used mine, you need to make clean it daughter!

two. You lot tin do this 2 ways. I'm going to show you the color blocking one concluding because information technology'south pretty direct forward. So for those that are looking for something more unique and distressed instead of bold (and beautiful).

Grab your paint brush and beginning with one small(ish) department at a time.

3. As the paint is drying, take your rag or paper towel and start lightly wiping the paint away. You tin experiment with this technique and just have fun with. At times, I even added a piddling water to my rag to remove large areas of paint and then went back into information technology once information technology was dry.

4. Continue to layer your paint and so wipe off in sure areas to get that distressed expect.

How to Make it (part II): Color Blocking

1. Once more, make clean your wallet as best yous can with a little soap and water (or leather cleaner).

2. Now I am going to bear witness the color blocked version. It'due south pretty uncomplicated. First, cull your color philharmonic. I picked red-orange and fuchsia fabric paint and decided at the terminal minute to keep a pop of the original yellowish also.

iii. Adjacent, it's fourth dimension to grab your pigment castor and pigment abroad. Pay close attention to fifty-fifty strokes and don't exist agape to layer upwardly! I ended upwards painting at least three coats of the ruddy since information technology's a bright colour and I wanted information technology to really pop. Here'due south an in-process shot of the layers as I was edifice them up…

4. Choose an area for your accent color (optional).I don't accept a motion picture of this function, merely it is pretty self explanatory. My wallet had a natural place to add together my accent colour, detect yours if you want it to await like you bought information technology that style. If you want to share your creative side, choose a less expected area for your emphasis colour – maybe a fun shape or stripes.

Hither'south the finished piece…

I like the color blocked version amend than the distressed wait from function I. What do you think? Which is your favorite?
